How does Boonlink’s warp-speed wireless internet work?
Boonlink uses state-of-the-art Motorola Canopy™ equipment to connect subscribers to the internet by transmitting radio waves from an Access Point on a tower to a Subscriber Module mounted on a roof. For example, when a subscriber uses the internet, data is sent from the subscriber’s computer, through a cable to the roof-mounted Subscriber Module, and then propagated through the air as a radio wave to a nearby access point on a tower. That signal is then relayed back to the Boonlink Network Operation Center where it is connected to the Worldwide Web. The result: a warp-speed, always on, secure Internet connection.

Is this satellite Internet?
No. Satellite internet uses a similar technology but requires communication with a satellite hundreds of miles above the earth’s surface. Boonlink requires a Subscriber Module to be pointed at a nearby radio tower for an internet connection.

What could hinder my ability to receive a Boonlink signal?
Since Boonlink operates using Radio Frequency, foliage and terrain play an integral part in whether or not a subscriber can receive a signal from a nearby tower. In areas where Boonlink offers Line of Sight services, it is necessary that the subscriber be in view of a tower.

How will bad weather affect my service?
Excluding acts of God, Boonlink Internet service is designed to operate in all types of bad weather.

How will Boonlink wire the Subscriber Module to my computer?
After mounting the Subscriber Module properly, a professional field technician will run a CAT-5 cable along the outside of your home/office, taking care to run the wire as inconspicuously as possible. The technician will then bring the wire into your home by drilling a small hole or following an existing wire. Once inside, the cable will be run to your computer. (Most new computers come with an Ethernet jack, if not, you may need to purchase and install a Network Card before you can access the Internet). If any extensions need to be made, you may want to hire a wiring contractor or purchase a wireless router.

What are the computer hardware and software requirements to access Boonlink?
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition or higher, or Macintosh-based operating system; Ethernet jack; a modem or router is recommended for added firewall security.

Is my bandwidth usage limited?
Subject to the Boonlink service plan that you sign up for, there is no limit to the amount of bandwidth you can use. You may upgrade your existing service plan at any time by contacting sales@boonlink.com or calling (256) 844-9932.

How do I add email accounts to my service?

Can I use my phone line or fax machine while online?
Yes. Because Boonlink does not tie up your existing phone lines in any way, you can use your fax or phone at any time.

How do I connect multiple computers to the internet connection?
If you have more than one computer you will need to purchase your own router. You may purchase a router or other networking devices from Boonlink by calling (256) 844-9932.

How fast is Boonlink Internet?
Currently Boonlink offers two plans for residential and business subscribers, 1.5Mbps and 3 Mbps. This is up to 50 times faster than dial-up. Speeds cannot be guaranteed as they are affected by many factors including distance from an Access Point, server activity, and network load. Boonlink also offers dedicated access for individuals or businesses that need the reliability of a secure, dedicated internet connection. To find out more about what Boonlink has to offer, contact sales@boonlink.com or call a sales agent at (256) 844-9932.

How long will it take to set up my Boonlink service?
Typically, it shouldn’t take more than a few days to get a customer set up. Once a site survey has affirmed proper tower visibility, the installation should take no more than 1-3 hours.

Can I do the installation myself?
Not at this time, unless you plan to purchase a subscriber module at full price.
